Financial Ability

Heres another article my husband wrote that he would like me to share with you. Its about how to develop financial ability, which is about developing income streams, which so many people do online, whether you are an affiliate marketer, someone who creates products or offers a service. Anyway, hope you enjoy this piece…

“Like everyone else, I work a normal job to earn money in order to buy the basics in life and pay my bills. Money is important and having an income is essential in order to make a living.

We are all taught at a young age, from our parents and at school that we have to work hard, study hard to get good grades in order to get a good job. Then when we leave education and get a job, we need to work hard at it, take home the paychecks and save and save and save money for our future. We save for a house, for marriage and for retirement.

Plain sailing?

I wouldn’t say so. Life is like navigating rough seas and we would be lucky if we could ever save a considerable amount of money. The market is always changing, the banking system is constantly pouring printed money into the economy and each year our saved money is worth less and less. And, if we are relying on one job to provide all our security needs, well, that’s like surfing the internet without virus protection or having unprotected sex with a total stranger.

You see, I did everything I was told when I left school. I got my good grades, got a good job, worked hard at it, saved hard for a house, marriage etc. But I still managed to lose everything. It doesn’t matter how hard you work at a job because your employer can still fire you at a moments notice. They might have to downsize the workforce, cut costs, or maybe you fall out of favour with the boss. Either way, your job is never secure. Nobody’s is, especially in this volatile economic climate with a raging pandemic that’s screwing everything up.

Now, I understand we are all wanting and working for security. To have enough money to feel secure and safe. But saving, though its been taught to us by our parents and school, is not always the best way.

Like I said before, navigating through lifes treacherous waters is like sailing a ship in a bottle that has been thrown out to sea. Any problem can come along in life and rain on your parade. Maybe it could be you have a car accident and need to get a new car, expensive. Or an expensive repair on the house. Or if, like me, you lost your job once because the company folded up.

In times like these its important to learn a new life skill which I call ‘Financial Ability.’ Financial Ability is the skill of generating your own income. It could be anything from creating a digital product like an ebook and selling it online or a video course and selling that online. Assets that will continue to make money for you long after you made them. Or maybe selling a service to people online like a freelancer. Everyone, I believe, is good at something and has something to offer. I have created numerous books to sell on Amazons KDP platform and made music albums. The internet provides all the tools (some even free) and a wealth of knowledge to help with just about anything. And it presents unlimited opportunities to create passive streams of income.

The phone you hold in your hands is the most powerful tool you can wield. That’s if you know how to use it properly. There’s a creative app for anything, for learning anything and creating anything, videos, music, podcasts etc. It all boils down to the quality of the content you produce.

I know some of you reading this might think, what do I know? But in this day and age, with jobs slowly disappearing, the world changing, the system we have will not last forever. This is the digital age and it is important we embrace it and learn to be self sufficient without relying on only one source (a job) one person (your employer) to make or break your future.”
