Leaf Pulling Grape Vines – Use A specialized tool to force the juices out!

Leaf pulling or the removal of leaves is one of the summer manipulations you simply cannot just do on your own. If you want to improve your chances of having a successful grape crop, you need to understand leaf pulling.

Leaf pulling is a maneuver or task that you require power equipment to do. Specialized equipment such as those utilized for leaf pulling, or sometimes called the tilt splitter, lies out for you to use. Few dedicated grape growers ever waste their money on ineffective equipment.

Before you consider using power equipment for leaf pulling, it is important to test your soil for its nutrient needs. You have to know what kind of soil you have to be able to understand the quantity of soil nutrients needed.

Grapes do not like an acid soil, but they do like sandy soil with some amount of fertilizer. With those premises, it is easy to understand why you might want to use leaf pulling instead of powerful fertilizers. It is one of those activities that can bring out the best in your grape vines.

More often today, gardeners and grape growers utilizing leaf pulling often do so to remove too many leaves. If you have too many leaves on your vines, they will not be able to produce fruit. In addition, people-especially home gardeners-who are not too fond of using fertilizers also choose not to use leaf pulling. However, if you want to be certain of getting rid of excessive leaves, you should consider using specially made leaf pullers.

The use of specially made leaf pullers allows you to selectively remove all leaves instead of having to kill all the leaves. You could then leave the vines to become fertilized naturally. Should the leaves grow back, you could use special root scissors to help you prune your vines again.

The use of the tilt splitter is often seen when grape growers are looking for better ways to prune grape vines. Sometimes a tilt splitter is used to ensure that there is even distribution of the shoots among all the vines. This is important because too many shoots will give the vines a disorganized look and reduce the chance of developing healthy grape vines.

Sometimes your grape vines will be required to stand in specific locations for a long period of time. For example, you might need them to be planted in Alsike. In this case, you will need to provide a trellis for the vines to be able to stand tall.

Most trellises are designed to only allow the growing vines to rise up in the centre, with the shoots extending outwards from the centre. You will need to use a stake to help the vines with standing up straight as well as allowing water to pass through them easily. You will need to allow the shoots to extend as they grow during the season.

Some trellises are not designed to allow the shoots to extend as they grow. Such a design would be the metal arbor trellis. Grape growers generally design these to be much more rigid.

The design is like a ladder with an uneven surface at the top. This is because the evenly arranged metal strips are not designed to allow the vine to stand straight. Even though the top may be designed to be level, the vines will tip down and begin growing at an angle.

Such an arbor trellis is more appropriate for wine producers who need their vines to be trained up the structure in order to facilitate harvesting. Being able to provide a solid framework to train the vines on is critical. Being able to stand them up above the ground is important for the health and task success of your vines.

Vines will be standing up straight because they are not allowed to grow across the upright surface. defect in the support system is prevented because the loose boards are designed to be loosely stacked, allowing the boards to show the cracks less than properly designed solid trellises.

In addition, lessens the chance of the dangerous bent rail system for the vines when the shoots are trying to grow across the ground. The tightly stacked boards mean that the shoots will not be pulled across the ground as they grow, an important safety benefit.

A majority of arbor trellises are designed to be cable wired as they have small runs for the wiring. Only adopt a solid design if you have a need to wire multiple rows of vines.

Grapevines are Borderer’s worst enemy! Function and/or safety is extremely important. We recommend that you build your own electrical supply run or electrical supply for your vines. A number of home-built wooden arbor trellises can be purchased at reasonable cost as you can build one yourself. Those wood pieces can be added to your existing home to create a garden arbor trellis then select and paint to your heart’s content.
