How to Improve Your Self Esteem (Self Care Part 3)

Self-care can include things like getting adequate sleep, getting proper nutrition, resting enough to feel fresh again, and some yoga or meditation time. It is important to insert any of the above kinds of self care activities into your life. How well you may already be taking care of yourself in these ways depends on a lot of factors. However, just doing the minimum is highly recommended which will help you feel better, be your own best friend, and calm your life to a manageable level.

Good self-care is also something to cultivate within yourself. It is an important way to develop a close relationship with yourself, as well as understand why you behave in a certain way. Sometimes it is a matter of a person matching their drink to their emotions, or vice-versa. A person can be feeling regret and anger or joy at being able to help so many people. The practice of external self-care can improve your own internal balance.

Sometimes a person can – and should – take on more responsibility than they are capable of handling at the moment. If a person is feeling guilty when a certain burden is not being taken care of, for instance and their spouse is picking up the slack, this increases the feelings of guilt and self-responsibility in the one making it, rather than decreasing the ones.

Enhance your self-image. A good way to accomplish this is to get yourself a scalpAffirmation Card or a suit or large group of affirmations. You can break cards down into specific areas. Read them to yourself everyday so as to get yourself into the positive mindset you intend. Gradually see yourself taking better care of yourself. This practice can help you feel better in terms of life generally.

A Practical Approach to Self-Care

Dr. Joseph Rosener has a strategy which involves 4 steps. I have worked with him and his system and it works for me.

  1. The first step is to realize what you need in order to succeed. Once you do this, you can become aware of what you need to do and then do it. It is important to be aware of your needs. Not only does this help to improve self-care it also helps youseeing what extras you can include into your life regularly As an example: in order to practice self-care, I need a suit and nice clothes which I have never purchased. Perhaps I will go to a discount store and do a sale on them for a hassle-free bargain.
  2. Ferret out and examine what most pleases you. If you like some things and feel like you don’t have enough of these, toss some of those “not for me” things, and replace them with things that you do like. For example, if you like baking, find some recipe books and cook from them.
  3. Find some fun time to serve yourself. For someone who shapes her own destiny, this is essential. I suggest you spend that time with yourself, whether you are alone or with someone else. About 15 minutes a day equals oh, so much fun to enjoy! Intimacy combined with less stress.
  4. Involve yourself in a group of family members or friends. This is a fun way to be with others who can offer support rather than vent. Always enjoy ownership of your niche and share ideas and/or neutral advice from others.

2 More Ways to Practice Self-Care

  1. Get enough sleep. Yes, sleep is important for us to stay sharp throughout the day. Lack of sleep causes an illness within your body.
  2. Eat healthy, lean foods when possible. A balanced diet is essential for good health so eat well and often and joyously.
