Proper foods, lots of exercise, and portion control are requirements for a healthy lifestyle. Alas there are a lot of misinformation to trap and beguile the unwary shopper. The biggest factor is your awareness of just what you are eating. Today we will discuss some of these Lies.
- Taking low-calorie claims at face value. Losing weight comes down consuming fewer calories than you took in. This is the tried and true method for losing weight. However, there is more to the process. The body wants to stay healthy and weight loss comes down to just that, the body wants to stay healthy. All calories are not created equally. If you consume more calories than you burn you will gain weight regardless of whether you took in less or more calories than the daily recommended level. Sorry but it isn’t rocket science folks.
- Being told to eat a “healthy” diet. You see this all the time in the ads and fat-family-friendly media dominating your TV and radio yeah? You have been reared to this belief and it is what most of “all” doctors and nutritionists tell you as well! Sorry folks it simply isn’t true. Your diet and eating habits have been trained into you by well meaning family and friends and everything you see in the movies and read in the newspapers. Sorry it isn’t any more true than that. Your diet and lifestyle choices are solely based off of what you have been taught.
- Eating for particular reasons. Actually look at your eating patterns. You typically don’t snack on sugary junk foods because you are hungry or bored, do you? Rather, you eat these foods when you are sad, lonely, depressed, bored, angry, anxious, or worried. These are all emotional states and there is no physical reason for you to eat these foods. Looking at the patterns in your eating you can easily see the emotional underbelly contained within. Eat these types of foods when you are physically ill. Not when you are bored, not when you are lonely, not when you are sad, not when you are anxious, and not when you are worried. Just because you want to lose weight doesn’t mean you need to be sick.
- Eating until you are full. You’ve heard it all before, and well it’s true. You will get fuller faster on a smaller meal. However, you will also get fuller more quickly. The initial hunger sensation will soon be forgotten as your body recognizes how full it is, and it won’t come back. That means that if you eat a snack in between meals it will be in the car, in the purse, and even in your pocket. No joke. If you’re trying to lose weight you need to do away with this because it will defeat the purpose of eating healthy. Additionally, it is bad for the digestive system because it takes a long time to digest and can leave you feeling unhealthy.
- Eating processed foods. Anyone who has played an American football game knows what I’m talking about. Think of the old Eskimo whose game is pretty much in a state that no cheeks are in sight. Where does that compare to the Thanksgiving feast? The same thing happens when you feed your body junk. Toss on some heavy lifting, swing and yell and you’ll be in much better shape than the Eskimo. Some will argue that the heavy lifting serves to build muscle. While that is true your overall handling of the job, particularly the ones around your midsection, shows great improvement.
- Eating at bars and restaurants. Everyone knows that you shouldn’t go eating at the local burger joint or ice cream parlor, realistically you can’t, either because it would be too expensive or you don’t have time. But what you can do is order smaller meals and share them with your date or someone else you know. That way you won’t feel like you’re on a diet (even though you are) and you’ll still be a bit of a gent in your consumption.
