Sleeping is something that most people don’t want to do. However, when we sleep, most of the things that we did when we were awake start to fade and when we fall asleep we usually fall back into the comfort zone of being a spectator. That is why it is important for us to take a few minutes just to let things fall into a proper pattern that we could recognize as our waking day to be one where we can enjoy everything the same again. When we fall back into our regular patterns of waking up and doing some work to go to the gym, eating some food and watch a few minutes of television, we are actually preparing ourselves for the work ahead of us that demands and are ready for.

Taking the time to get proper sleep is one of the things I am really focused on and learning how to get a good night’s sleep to be able to function my best throughout the day. I wish this was easier so I could be more productive and better at my job. In addition to just getting a good night’s sleep I try and make sure I try and not just make it through the night without issues but actually be able to go to sleep the right way. I usually listen to a book on tape or read and make sure I don’t stay up reading overnight. In addition to just having a great night sleep it’s also important that I wake up to the right amount of sleep.

To make it really easy to sleep, it is recommended that you get your bed completely ready for you to be on the right position for sleeping. For your mattress to be comfortable it needs to be placed on a hard surface like metal that is dampened in the right temperature. One way that people can use to sleep better is to put on comfortable socks and use them as a bed on your mattress to stop using chemicals that will not only irritate your skin but also may have an effect on you for years to come.

Here are some other tips that you may already know…

• Turn off all phones, electrical devices and TV at least two hours before bed. You know that the screens on these devices can interfere with our routine of sleep.

• Avoid any unnecessary snacking before bed. Just drink fluids like water or milk which is especially good for relaxing the body before sleep.

• Avoid taking any caffeine or drinks containing caffeine after 2pm in the day.

• Try to avoid long naps in the afternoon or evening. Its like snacking before a big meal.

• Write down any worries or concerns in a diary and tell yourself that you will deal with them in all good time. This usually helps the mind put all worries in the right type of frame.

• Make your sleep environment as comfortable as possible. Ensure the bedroom is clean, well ventilated, warm in the Winter nights and cool in the summer. In hot and scorching nights, have a fan on low. It will not only keep you cool but the low humming sound of the fan will help lullaby you to sleep. Putting on relaxing music with nature sounds also helps.

One of the most common concerns with the quality of our sleep, according to “The Sleep Book”, is that “sleep is a signal that you’re not healthy”. If you are consistently tired and unable to find your way back to sleep, you may have a serious medical condition that needs medical attention. Sleeping excessively can also be an indicator of some neuropsychiatric disorders. Some people believe that “sleep helps the mind”, while others state that “sleep assists with relaxing the body and mind”. I hope though that this article has helped in some way.
