Delving Into The Origins Of Christmas And Santa

Most people believe that Christmas is based on the story of Jesus Christ’s birth, but that’s not actually the case. Christmas has a lot more in common with pagan winter celebrations than it does with Christianity. So if you’re wondering where all those traditions really come from, read on! You might be surprised at what you learn.

– Santa Claus is based on pagan winter celebrations that pagans had before Christmas, Santa is the only reason people know about Jesus’ birthday.

– Santa isn’t related to Christianity at all, Santa was created by paganism.

– Santa is also known as and based on Saint Nicholas who was a Christian bishop of Asia Minor (part of modern day Turkey) during the early fourth century A.D. Santa was well known for his generosity by giving gifts to children, but Santa wasn’t Santa then – Santa was Saint Nicholas (Bishop) who actually gave poor children bags of gold coins, not presents.

– Santa’s red suit is based on the robes that bishops wear which are usually bright colors like red, Santa wears that suit because Santa is making a parody of the robes of bishops.

– Christmas traditions like Santa Claus were created by pagans in an attempt to make Christianity seem more fun. The Santa holiday was created during the era of Christianization, Santa was made from pagan winter celebrations and Santa became a replacement for many older pagan traditions that had been associated with winter solstice. Santa was also made to seem more fun and enjoyable than Christianity. The character of Santa was created as a replacement for Saint Nicholas (Bishops and Christianity).

– The Santa holiday wasn’t actually associated with Christmas until the 1800s. Before that Santa’s day was mixed up with other different Christian holidays. Santa didn’t become popular until after 1823 when it became recognized. Santa was not popular until Richard Clement featured him in a story he wrote in 1821 entitled ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’. Santa didn’t become famous until 1881 in a Coca-Cola ad in which Santa was given a Coca-Cola. Santa has only recently (in the 1900s) became associated with Christmas, without Santa Claus and Santa’s association with Christmas Santa Claus would not exist.

– Santa’s birthday isn’t even on the same day as the supposed birth of Santa in which Santa was born on December 6th, Santa was actually born on March 15th – Saint Nicholas’ Day.

All in all, it seems that the origins of Santa Clause are a little bit unclear. There is no mention of him before 1837 and there were other people who played similar roles to this character throughout history. Whether or not he was an amalgamation of these earlier figures or if he’s really from Lapland doesn’t matter, because he has become one with Christmas-time for many people around the world. It would be interesting to know more about his original story though!
