The growing demand for qualified computer programmers has set computer science majors free to explore lucrative yet challenging jobs. With the exception of a few specialty areas, such as database administrators, data analysts, and networking engineers, most programmers are hired on a project basis. You would need a lot of education and experience, of course, but when applying to a company for a job, you’d better believe that you’d be able to communicate in English. It would also be a good idea to acquire some type of certification in your desired field because you’d have a better chance of being paid more.

So how could you go about finding a job in this field? The difficulty of the profession has created want for advanced education. Do not be fooled into thinking that a computer programmer can simply command a top salary of $100,000. If you have not mastered the necessary skills, you’ll be in the lower percentage compared to other computer professionals in the same field. It’s relatively easy to get a computer programming job; the difficult part is convincing a company to hire you. Considering that the average salary for a computer programming job is $70,000.00 a year, it’s obvious that you must be able to make an impression. Make sure that your skills are up to date, be available to work, and be willing to travel. If the idea of telecommuting doesn’t appeal to you, this is a clear sign that you need to brush up on your skills or explore other options.

As with any profession, the more education you have the higher your pay. If you’re considering a career in computer programming, acquiring a degree or certificate related to computer programming language should be a top priority. Additionally, acquire at least an associates degree in computer science or information systems, or a certification such as a Certified Software Development Professional (CSDP). These added certifications will show that you are serious about your career and that you are prepared to begin your upward mobility in the field of computer programming.
