Green Flowers For Your Garden

Green flowers are aromatic and inviting; they are colors that relax your soul. Your garden cannot be complete without them. Green is a color that represents tranquility, happiness, and love. Your home need not be maroon or even circular to green. It can be any color you like because it is relaxing and comforting.

Your garden can be a refuge from a stressful world you come from. It can help you forget your problems. Green is a color that represents growth and a new beginning. It is a symbol ofplings that bear fruit and blossoms in Spring. The chirping of birds along with the up-pinging of the breeze is the only other distinguishing characteristics of a garden in green.

Like any other color, green can be chosen to go with one of the primary colors in your garden scheme. The variations of green are too numerous to mention. A good greening tip is to select a contrasting color for the areas that will be closest to the house.

If you have a large enough space to accommodate a garden in green you might want to consider converting a portion of your lawn or some of the paving into a garden. Adopting a theme of green garden flowers will add   color and contrast, causing your garden to be not only beautiful but also a place where you can relax and enjoy.

The only real downside to converting a lawn or paving into a garden is the preparation work that goes into it. Convious efforts must be made to eradicate any weeds and to ensure that all areas are dug to soil depth. With a large area of grass to convert and a short time with it before it is ready to re-lawn, this work can be manageable for a homeowner. However, if you have a small area to cover and  intend to use part of it for your new garden it may be more of a hassle.

Converting common lawn areas to a garden involves the digging of a trench.   Usually a trench one side of the house to another, approximately eight inches deep and twelve inches wide is sufficient. Each side of the house will provide an area for growing vegetables, herbs, and flowers or even a combination of the three. Greenhouse style coverings will protect soil from seasonal changes and help retain moisture during warmer than usual growing periods.

Select seeds and plants that do not already thrive in your area. Get them from neighbors and other gardeners. You can ask for seeds from area gardeners and nursery staff. Or take a sample of the plant and send it for testing to a seed company. Each seed company has its own unique varieties and informed staff will be able to tell you if they grow well in your area or another. Many even will send free seeds if you are not sure of the best soil type for the plant you want to grow.

When purchasing plants the selective breeding of plants is important. Some vegetables do not grow well in close proximity to other kinds. Considerations like this should be kept in mind when choosing plants.

The soil in the area of the garden should also be considered. Very often we are not aware that the pH levels and nutrients of the soil need to be maintained when we plant vegetables. Most vegetables today are scratch nutrients because we tend to plant them in fertile soils that offer all the nutrients they need. But not all gardens have the ideal soil to grow all the plants they need.

Soil is also the home to most pests. The best garden soil is a rich dark loam. It needs to be loose so that water and air can get through to the roots and plants. However, it also needs to be able to drain well enough so that the roots and plants aren’t standing in water. Luckily, soil has an ideal pH level of about 6.5. Most vegetables and fruit grow on a relatively low pH soil of approximately 6.0 – 7.0. A pH soil test kit can be purchased and used with common plants to raise or lower the pH level of the soil.

Regular watering is very important to prevent the soil from sticking together. Weeds are part of the garden and part of life. While pulling or digging up weeds can be a pain in the butt, if the solution is as simple as a hoe, an hour or so of work is well worth it in order to achieve a weed free garden and beautiful flowers.

Herb gardens are usually grown for culinary purposes. However, a medicinal garden is another option and has many uses for the community in which it is grown. As herbs can be plants or flowers, culinary herbs can be grown as a part of a flower bed, as a lawn feature or as potted plants.
